About Us

Client and patient care is at the very heart of what we do.

With over 30 years experience in medicine, surgery and nursing, our close knit team of dedicated professionals can provide exceptional care.

We understand that treatment needs to be unique to each patient and family to ensure the best possible outcome.

We have opened up our new  practice so as to provide a service where we combine traditional values with high quality, modern facilities in an independent  setting.

This allows us to offer fair and affordable care accessible to all.

As part of the local community, we pride ourselves in being big enough to cope but small enough to care.

That’s how we can give great continuity of care and provide a more personal touch where we really get to know our clients and patients.

Ever since I was a school girl I was determined to become a vet and I realised my dream when I graduated from Glasgow University Vet School in 1992.

My enthusiasm for horses had introduced me to the late Jimmy Love who inspired me in my endeavours to become a vet and ultimately offered me my first job in mixed practice. He always wore purple socks – a wee nod to him in our new practice colour palette.

I started work the day after I passed my finals; not for a trip around the world and some time out!

As I progressed through the ranks, I was delighted to join Jimmy, John Galloway and Neil McIntosh as a Partner in the Abbey Veterinary Group. They have been great friends and mentors over the years.

Having been in general practice for over 30 years I gravitated towards companion animal work.
I have loved the variety of being a GP vet and have embraced every aspect of it.
It has been wonderful to be able to develop such a vast array of skills and knowledge that I get to use every day.

I am  passionate about continuing to be up to date with the latest advancements in veterinary care and have been able to provide keyhole neutering for some time now.

Outside of the practice , I enjoy home life in the country and in particular walking my dogs, looking after and riding my horses, including a recent project of breeding a foal.

I look forward to welcoming you and your pets to Naismith Vets and I can’t wait to get to know all our pets and families.

It’s very important to me to bring back that traditional, personal touch and provide a caring, comfortable and professional environment for all your veterinary needs.

I was born and bred in South Wales. Growing up with many pets I have wanted to be a vet for as long as I remember. This ambition was confirmed after my work experience at a local veterinary practice which turned into a weekend and school holiday job.

I finally graduated from The Royal Veterinary College, London in 2015. After meeting a Bonnie Scottish Lass (now my  wife) while at university, the move to Scotland was inevitable and I started my career as a mixed vet at Paisley’s Abbey Veterinary Group working for Beverley, Neil McIntosh and John Galloway.

After several different veterinary posts, my passion lies firmly with independent practice, where I believe patients can truly get bespoke treatment plans tailored to both our patients and clients to achieve the best possible outcomes. I am both thrilled and proud to be a part of Naismith Vets. My clinical interests are soft tissue surgery and keyhole surgery.

Outside of work, I enjoy hillwalking, running, Formula 1 and spending time with my wife and our baby boy.

I feel so incredibly lucky that my career allows me to work with animals every single day. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else and I wouldn’t want to !

My passion for animals started at a very young age, as well as having lots of different pets of my own I volunteered looking after retired police dogs and ex racing greyhounds.

I qualified as an RVN in 2012 and still to this day, it really feels such a privilege to be able to care for every patient as though they are my own.

I pride myself in having a very high standard of care and really want to make every patient feel as comfortable and reassured as possible during their time with us.

Having been in general practice for over 18 years this has allowed me to gain a vast amount of knowledge and experience with companion animals.

I’m hugely passionate about large bull and molloser type dogs. I also have a soft spot for brachycephalic breeds and I enjoy educating owners on how to keep their best friends as healthy as possible. These breeds do need to have slightly different protocols in place for certain procedures and anaesthetics and I always strive to stay current with my veterinary knowledge in order to keep your pets safe!

I believe that every patient has their own specific needs and requirements and every owner should have comfort knowing their pet will be looked after in a caring and compassionate environment.

Outside of practice I enjoy spending time with my own dogs and going hikes!

I have a keen interest in dog training and behaviour. I also believe the nutritional requirements of our pets go hand in hand with behaviour and can lead to a longer healthier, stress free life.

I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse almost 32 years ago, apart from having a few years away from nursing to bring up my three children I have worked in a very busy local veterinary practice and at Glasgow University Veterinary School hospital where I was responsible for patients in the medical wards. In the course of my nursing career, I have gained an immense amount of knowledge with a wide variety of animals, large and small.

There are many aspects of veterinary nursing I enjoy, including anaesthesia and caring for patients before and after their surgical procedure. It is so fulfilling and gives me a great sense of pride when we can nurse patients back to good health.  During my career, I have become someone who appreciates one to one client care, especially during the tougher moments of a pet’s treatment or approaching end-of-life care.

I also take great pleasure in encouraging trainee nurses to reach their full potential, passing on my expertise and experience when treating our patients.  The next generation of nurses are our future and I am keen to help them become the best nurses they can be.

Outwith practice life, my family and pets keep me busy. Ted and Vera, my 2 dogs, are always ready for a walk in the park, and I am blessed to now have grandchildren to make a fuss of.

From day one I have been around dogs, and have grown up with Greyhounds and Lurchers, my family also enjoys having canaries at home with various names such as, David Bowie, Morrisey and Mick Jagger (can you see the theme)?

My love and interest in animals heavily influenced my decision to become a Veterinary Nurse.

After my school work experience I knew this career was for me. I began working with Abbey Veterinary Group in Greenock as a trainee Veterinary Nurse in 2021. After a lot of studying and training in practice, I graduated as a RVN in 2023.  Since I joined Naismith Vets in February 2025, I have been able to further develop my nursing skills, the variety of surgical care and hospitalisation of patients is very rewarding.  I get great satisfaction when I see a patient’s condition improve to the point where they can go home to their family.

I am looking forward to developing my skills here at Naismith Vets, the facilities give me the opportunity to improve my knowledge of laboratory testing and how that assists us to diagnose quickly and effectively.  The small personal environment gives me a chance to build confidence in speaking to clients and getting to know their pets.

Outwith work, I am a team leader with the Greenock and District Scouts Group, I support the Explorer section of our group in experiencing practical life. First aid has become my speciality, along with dismantling and packing away wet tents at speed!

To relax I thoroughly enjoy hill walking with my rescue greyhound Max, he keeps me on my toes with his antics.

I qualified as a veterinary nurse 20 years ago, and continued to work at the small animal surgery where I was on placement as a student. Other placements during my training included Glasgow University Vet School, Cardonald SSPCA, and PDSA Glasgow, offering a diverse range of pets and experiences.

After a few years break for maternity leaves, I chose to step into a Practice Management role. I embraced the challenge and learned many new skills within the two years that I worked in this position. I particularly enjoyed supporting my colleagues, utilising my organisational skills, and learning about mindfulness and wellbeing.

However, my true passion lies in veterinary nursing, and I was fortunate to be offered a position with Naismith Vets. I am loving being part of an independent and passionate team. My favourite aspects of nursing are caring for patients whilst they are hospitalised, nurse consultations, and assisting clients during their visits.

I have an interest in pet behaviour and strive to make every pet’s visit as relaxed and stress free as possible, for them and their owners.

Outside of work, my two young boys keep me very busy! When time allows, I volunteer for StreetVet outreach in Glasgow. I also enjoy walking our rescue pup, Jura, and visiting Arran when we can.

As a farmer’s daughter I have been around animals for as long as I can remember. That upbringing, combined with over thirty years of full time reception and managerial work in a busy mixed veterinary practice means that I have had experience of most things that walk, crawl, swim or even slither.  Dogs are my favourite personal companions and as you can probably imagine working in a vets has meant all my pets have found me rather than the other way around and I’ve always felt very privileged to share my life with theirs.

Since leaving agricultural college my entire working life has been in veterinary care  and I can honestly say that I still thoroughly enjoy every moment, the nature of the work means I’ve never had the same day twice! One of the most fulfilling aspects of my varied daily tasks is getting to know you, our clients and your pets, I believe building personal relationships is a most important  factor in client and pet care, this helps to make sure any concerns or worries you may have are efficiently assessed before taking them to the next step of seeing the vet.

Client and animal care is our priority here at Naismith Vets so whether it be a question about your animal’s symptoms or advice on an insurance query, I’ll do my utmost to help.

I have a passion for fitness, food, and reading books. I have two energetic pups, and much of my free time is spent walking, playing, and enjoying their company. Outside of dog walks, I love to experiment in the kitchen, trying new recipes and exploring unique dining spots. When I’m not cooking or eating out, you’ll likely find me at the gym or trying out new fitness classes—I’m always up for a challenge and love keeping active.

I grew up around pets and spent several years horse riding, which deepened my connection with the animal world. This combination of my professional experience and personal passions allows me to understand both the emotional and practical aspects of caring for animals. Working in the veterinary sector for the past 9 years has been an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing me to blend my passion for animals with meaningful client relationships. Over the years, I’ve gained invaluable hands-on knowledge of animal care, while also learning how to connect with pet owners on a personal level. Whether it’s offering advice, comforting a worried pet parent, or providing a listening ear, my own experiences with my dogs have shaped how I approach client interactions, ensuring that I offer both professional care and heartfelt support.

Whether it’s spending time with my dogs, diving into a good book, or learning something new, I’m always looking for ways to grow and enjoy life to the fullest!
